About the event

The Graduate Program in Letters (Linguistics and Literature) and the Letters Undergraduate Course (Languages and Literature Studies) of the University of Passo Fundo announces the 8 th National Seminar and the 2 nd International Seminar on Language and Literature - Remote Conversations, accessible entirely online, to be held from 6 th to 9 th October 2020. The event aims to promote scientific research in the areas of linguistics and literary studies, focusing on discursive activities promoted in symbolic action networks and involved in the complex relations between language and the world, in this extreme moment of human life, when the distance places societies both under new conditions of existence, contact and communication, and under the urgency of reassessing a series of human procedures.

The theme of the event ‘Remote conversations’ is set up under a context, not under a more precise or rigorous theoretical or thematic line. In times when a pandemic has reoriented social and cultural demands and routines, imposing a new order of how to live, this event aims to bring together, via remote conversations, the subjects involved in the complexity of language studies. Brazilian Portuguese is the official language of the event, however the symposiums will also accept proposals in English, Spanish, French. (The full details in the table).

Remote Conversations aim to:

Expand the possibilities of exchanging knowledge with researchers and students from national and international Higher Education Institutions about the linguistic and literary studies that are currently being developed in the Institutions.
Encourage the discussion of relevant themes within the scope of the study of languages which has contributed to the understanding of the discursive phenomena that mark the experience of man in society, especially in a time of pandemic or post-pandemic.
Promote the dialogue between academic research in the area of language and the educational context of regular education in order to guarantee the exchange of knowledge and concrete experiences in teaching mother tongue, foreign/additional languages, reading and literature.
